{"id":3558,"date":"2018-03-01T13:04:51","date_gmt":"2018-03-01T18:04:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mjsymuleski.com\/artofthemooc\/?p=3558"},"modified":"2018-03-01T13:04:51","modified_gmt":"2018-03-01T18:04:51","slug":"culinary-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mjsymuleski.com\/artofthemooc\/culinary-art\/","title":{"rendered":"Culinary Art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This week after watching Pedro&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Plant, Garden, Cook, Eat\u00a0<\/em>video lecture I was inspired to look into culinary art.\u00a0 Culinary art incorporates both the cooking and presentation of food in a way that is aesthetically appealing\u00a0as well as delectable.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mjsymuleski.com\/artofthemooc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/MOCHI.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3566\" src=\"https:\/\/mjsymuleski.com\/artofthemooc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/MOCHI-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mjsymuleski.com\/artofthemooc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/MOCHI-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mjsymuleski.com\/artofthemooc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/MOCHI-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mjsymuleski.com\/artofthemooc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/MOCHI.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What has always fascinated me is the variation between cultures of culinary art across the world.\u00a0 One of\u00a0my favourite dishes,\u00a0<em>Mochi, i<\/em>s considered to be a delicacy<em>\u00a0in Japan <\/em>and is a piece of art created through many hours of manual labor (hand pressing and moulding rice around warmed ice cream.\u00a0 However, Mochi (Pictured above) in the western hemisphere is not valued as artistic in any way shape or form, which demonstrates the stark variations in what is considered and appreciated as culinary art across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>Culinary art is something that I have strove for when cooking my own dishes and for the most part fallen short of achieving.\u00a0 Modern culinary art centres around thermodynamics, chemistry, butchering, human nutrition and presentation.\u00a0 I would advocate for the introduction of a class involving culinary art here at Duke, which would allow students to develop their cooking abilities in a distinct way that would serve them for life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; This week after watching Pedro&#8217;s\u00a0Plant, Garden, Cook, Eat\u00a0video lecture I was inspired to look into culinary art.\u00a0 Culinary art incorporates both the cooking and presentation of food in a way that is aesthetically appealing\u00a0as well as delectable.
