In The Art of the MOOC Video Lecture 2.2 – Activism & Social Movements: Aesthetics, Art History, and Cultural Institutions, the video ended with the question of which social practices still elude art making? I will argue that even the social action that nearly everyone does every day – their job – can be treated as art.
My mother, who is a general contractor, has turned the job of designing and building houses into a art. Instead of treating her work as simply a job, she brings an astounding level of creativity to work with her. She creates an exhibit that can be viewed, and purchased, on the dates of her open houses.
