The sound of sports…
Nearly everyone in the world of futbol knows Ian Darke. They might not be able to point him out of a crowd, but they could hear his voice and know instantly who they’re listening to.
Ian Darke was born in 1950 and is one of the most well-recognized commentators in sports. He is the king of the FA Premier League, and his voice can be heard echoing throughout homes fed through FIFA XBOX consuls. He has covered the biggest games in futbol, from the World Cup to the Champions League Finals. He is well versed in every team’s history and spews facts about players and managers in a thick, English accent that has become a trademark to the game.
In 2010 he was hired by ESPN to be the voice of the Premier League, and his popularity continued to take off with his commentating of the 2011 Women’s World Cup where Abby Wambach’s last-minute goal kept the United States alive in the semi-final match against Brazil.
His voice will echo throughout futbol history long after he is gone. And until then, he will continue to leave a legacy of passion and love for the game in his path wherever he goes.
