In Martha Rosler’s interview she discusses the production of her short film, Semiotics of the Kitchen. Rosler was attracted to the works of Godard and Vertov in their unusual approach using in-camera edits instead of traditional editing techniques. The inspiration gained from Godard and Vertov led to her own production of Semiotics in the Kitchen, using the most minimal presentation possible. She used a fixed camera frame for the entire shoot concluding with a single zoom out at the end. Her goal was to create a language using the semiotics of a woman’s role in the kitchen. At the end of the interview her short film is shown.
