“El Cerro”, which means “the hill” in Spanish, is also the name of the project that Chemi Rosado-Seijo started.
Rosado-Seijo provides green paints to residents of a village in Naranjito, Puerto Rico. The village is located at the bottom of a hill that has much greenery. Houses of the residents were of all colors, producing a sharp contrast against the natural greenery of the hill. Those paints are provided to whoever want to paint their house green.
The goal of this project is to initiate people to paint their houses green and eventually making the whole village merge into the hill. From online search results, it seems that Rosado-Seijo’s project was immensely successful.
Public art, as the name suggests, necessarily involves some kind of publicity. Either that it requires the participation of the public or it requires the display of art in the public. Rosado-Seijo’s project involves both and the former is more difficult to achieve.
