In Pedro Lasch’s video about various different communities, the experimental and intentional communities stood out to me. In particular, I was really intrigued by Drop City Colorado. Drop City Colorado is described as a community made as an artwork. It has many domes that are created out of different materials in many different shapes and sizes.
After researching Drop City, I found that the makers of Drop City moved to create another community of artwork called Criss-Cross. The intention for their move was due to tensions that may have arose from critics or inhabitants of nearby areas. According to Clark Richert, Drop City and Criss-Cross was to was made to “function in a ‘synergetic’ interaction between peers to create experimental artistic innovation.”
Artistic communities are such a great way to express artistic ability and spread their creations with others. It is even more interesting that these artists are creating visually appealing places for people to live.
