Changing the relationship between Americans and their President

No not that president! Franklin D. Roosevelt started his Fireside chats during the years of the great depression. He wanted a forum to quell any fears of the american people and to help explain the programs he was expanding. Instead of waiting for the annual State of the Union, to hear the direction the government is heading. Roosevelt would “talk” to each citizen separately and softly. His work helped to get more everyday Americans involved in government and helped to start the idea that the President should held accountable to the people.
