#OscarsSoWhite was born online in response to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ announcement of all white actor nominations, in top categories, for the second year in a row. Twitter users galvanized participation in the hashtag which, in turn, set a boycott of the Academy Awards in motion. The Academy, in response, agreed to increase the diversity of its board, and change voting criteria.
