Art in Education?

Art does not have to be a physical piece or even a performance. Art can also be creative thinking as evidenced by educational theories and experiments. A great example of this discussed in the Mooc is the Universidad de la Tierra located in Oaxaca. It has established an environment that mimics the conditions that indigenous people lived and learned in. Additionally, there are no hierarchies and it is an equal space, which is open for other organizations and groups to participate in. This initiative has provided work and study to young people in the region, which suffers from sanitation, food, and water problems. Pictures on their website show people of all ages attending lectures, building mosaics, and gardening. Although there is no direct connection to artwork, many artists have embraced this cause and alternative styles of education for their creative nature and divergent representation.
